The Election Commission consolidated all Voter ID updates into a single form — Form 8 — covering corrections (name, DOB, address spelling), residence shifting, replacement of a lost EPIC, and marking yourself as a person with disability (PwD).

You access it on the Voters Service Portal. The portal fetches your existing record by EPIC number, and you only edit the fields that need to change. Upload proof matching the change you're requesting.

For address shifting across constituencies or states, the portal handles the move — but make sure you're not registered in two places simultaneously. Double registration is an electoral offence.

Eligibility

  • You are an enrolled voter in an electoral roll.
  • Your EPIC (Voter ID number) is active.

Required documents

  • EPIC number

Your existing Voter ID card number to locate your record.

  • Proof for the change requested

Aadhaar for name/DOB correction, address proof for shifting (utility bill, rent agreement, etc.), photograph for photo update.

Common mistakes

  • Filing Form 6 instead of Form 8 to update an existing record — Form 6 is for fresh registration only.
  • Uploading a low-quality address proof that doesn't show the applicant's name or full address.
  • Shifting from a different state but not deleting yourself from the old electoral roll — you must explicitly request deletion (Form 7) at the old constituency or use the inter-state shifting option in Form 8.
  • Trying to use Form 8 for someone else's correction — each voter must apply for themselves.

Frequently asked questions

Will my EPIC number change after an update?

Usually no — the EPIC number stays the same. For inter-state shifting or replacement, a new EPIC may be issued.

How do I update my address to a different constituency?

Use Form 8 with 'Shifting of Residence' option. The Election Commission handles the inter-constituency move.

I lost my Voter ID. Can I get a new one?

Yes. Use Form 8 with 'Replacement of EPIC' option. You'll get a new card with the same number.

Can I link my Aadhaar to my Voter ID through this form?

Aadhaar-Voter linking is a separate flow on the Voters Service Portal. It's voluntary and helps clean up duplicate enrolments.
